In last week’s Tip Tuesday, we came up with a list of questions to ask to determine whether it’s time for a practice makeover or not. If your staff has had a chance to meet and come to the conclusion that it absolutely is, keep reading!
After identifying the areas that could use improvement, what are some ways you can incorporate changes that are necessary to see the growth and success you’ve always envisioned. Here are a couple of suggestions:
- Time to Embrace Technology. If your practice hasn’t yet embraced the idea of switching from old-school office management and patient communication, implementing a patient engagement platform should be the first transition you consider. It will offer more customized communication for your patients as well as tools to assist in addressing many issues that cause inefficiencies within practices. Having a solid online and social media presence will also be key to practice growth and retention.
If you currently have digital patient relationship management integrated into your practice and are still not where you want to be, make sure you are first communicating with a customer support representative for your system if you feel you are not using your platform to its full potential. Perhaps another training session or refresher for your staff will be enough to solve many of the issues that could be holding you back from greater success.
- Bring in a Third Party. Another option to consider is to bring in a healthcare practice consultant or mentor to help pinpoint what office inefficiencies may be holding you back from your practice goals. Often this is all it takes to get to the bottom of your frustrations. A mentor will observe and analyze your business system and processes to make sure you are taking advantage of all the solutions that you may currently have implemented but are not fully utilizing. They can then coach you and your staff on what improvements can be made. Many practices that choose to go this route end up seeing a dramatic increase in production, collections, staff communication, and patient satisfaction. Sometimes all it takes is a neutral third party to see where the holes are. It may be just what the doctor ordered!
As you begin to identify and incorporate changes to improve staff and office efficiency, you will likely in turn see an improvement in the overall patient experience. This is the key! When patients are happy they will spread the word, but unfortunately the opposite is also true, which could very well be the real culprit for stagnancy or decline. Taking a look at where you are falling short can be time-consuming, but it is an investment worth making! If you aren’t already, be sure to start collecting patient reviews so you can see the results of all of your hard work and stay on top of what is working and what isn’t.
You’ve tolerated being stuck for long enough. Ready to get off the plateau and reach new heights? It’s time for your practice makeover!
