Holly Kempton is the founder and Executive Director at Empower U, a 501c3 non-profit organization standing for anti-bullying and suicide prevention. The mission of the organization is to create a safe haven for youth who are bullied or suicidal and to empower them with better life skills for coping with their challenges and to instill love and acceptance of themselves. The group aims to motivate, inspire, entertain and help them to realize their worth, potential, talents and passions and turn those into healthy outlets for coping with the stresses of life as a youth in today’s world.
Holly’s vision for creating Empower U came from a mother’s inherent desire to help her children deal with the impact of the bullying they were experiencing in school and through social media. After learning of the fourth suicide attempt by her daughter’s friend, as well as hearing about 5 suicides in one year at a local high school, Holly decided it was time for change and made a commitment to make a difference in the lives of at risk youth.
Being made aware of the rise in teen suicides in the state and across the nation, and realizing there is little support available for teens and families in the local communities regarding this issue, it seemed there was an obvious demand and need for education and empowerment of our teens. Holly is involved in all aspects of the organization, and she is highly involved in curriculum development, training, and event planning. The organization’s motto is “Empowering People, Inspiring Confidence” to live an EPIC life.
